About Rod Hartvigsen

Rod HartvigsenRod Hartvigsen lives in Broome, Western Australia and has done so since 1999.

Self taught as a professional Photographer, he specialises in landscape photography, but also delves into abstract natural art photographs, wildlife and what he calls ‘people’ photography.

Growing up in a variety of remote Australian locations such as Elliott, Northern Territory and Port Lincoln, South Australia, Rod has developed a deep love for the bush and wild places. This is evident in his photographs which capture the ever changing colours and splendour of the Australian bush.

Many of his photographs are from in and around Broome and the Kimberley region of Western Australia where he runs Murranji Photographic Studio and Gallery. There, he produces and displays photographs in all forms from print to the final framed piece of art. From here they have been sent all around the world to adorn walls in many countries.

Rod specialises in panoramic photographs because “they portray what we see with the naked eye. So often we are disappointed with our holiday memories because we see spectacular scenery in front of us and when we click off the shutter, the resulting photo is as if we put a set of horse blinkers on and our scene is drastically reduced!”

After many years exploring out of the way places right across Australia by four wheel drive, Rod has recently been accessing even more remote areas of the Kimberley by foot. Expeditions into the Isdell, Moran and Lennard river areas of the Kimberley have provided some spectacular images of what these remote and rugged areas have to offer.
